Bea Hasselmann, Music Director

Bea Hasselmann is well known in choral and educational fields.  Receiving her under-graduate and graduate degrees in music education from Winona State University, she has taught music to students in elementary grades through college graduates.  As the founder and Music Director of the Metropolitan Boys Choir, she established a successful program for boys’ voices that has been in existence for forty-four years.  Her choirs have toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Central America.  Locally, they performed regularly with the Minnesota Orchestra for thirty years and for opera companies and other orchestras in and outside of Minnesota. In addition to being listed in “Outstanding Secondary Educators of America,” Bea Hasselmann has had the honor of receiving the Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity’s “Community Music Award,” and the Great Northern Union Chorus’ “Award of Harmony”, and “The Council of Kadosh – Legacy Award" for her outstanding work with youth. She served as National Chairperson of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Committee on Boychoirs as well as an officer of the ACDA of Minnesota.  She has also been a choral clinician and speaker for music conventions and festivals in numerous states.  Bea Hasselmann was a talent coordinator for Super Bowl XXVI, in addition to a number of other national events.  Her most recent endeavor is her creation of a music program at the Minnesota Correctional Facility of Red Wing, a program that has generated national and international interest.  The Minnesota State Senate passed a Resolution honoring her correctional facility work.  She was honored to speak on “The Power of Music” at Yale University in 2013 at the International Choral Symposium.
